A country garden

This large garden situated in the picturesque village of Pleshey is owned by a retired couple and is listed in the Yellow book. The clients wanted to re-invigorate some of the areas which had become tired. Low maintenance was another requirement.

Richard felt that the existing patio area could be enlarged whilst the slope was ideal for a series of terraced beds. Using the existing curves and profiles of the garden the new terrace sweeps around the patio area. Linking with the soft lines of the existing garden was important, Richard ensured that all the new elements were in harmony with the old garden. The hard edges of the existing drive were softened and a new surface laid to tie in with the new materials on site. Material selection was linked throughout the garden creating a sense of visual unity as well as tying in with the rural location.
